Johnny and Jimmy sat on the bunkhouse bed, playing a game of cards. Mr Wilson, the boss, entered the room and cleared his throat.

Johnny: "Is it the work? We'll be fine. Just do what Slim tells us and we'll get through it."

They arrived at the fields and Slim greeted them.

Slim: "Glad you boys could make it. We've got a lot of work to do today."

Johnny and Jimmy worked hard all day, picking and hauling sacks of grain. By midday, Jimmy was exhausted and had started to lag behind.

Johnny: "Hey, Jimmy, you doing okay?"

Jimmy: "I don't know, man. I feel really weak. My head is spinning."

Johnny: "Let's take a break. We'll sit down and have some water."

They sat in the shade of a tree and drank some water. But Jimmy didn't seem to be getting any better.

Johnny: "Maybe we should head back to the bunkhouse. You don't look so good."

Jimmy: "No, no. I can do this. Let's finish up the work first."

They pushed through the rest of the day, but as the sun started to set, Jimmy collapsed. Johnny ran to get Slim, who called for the doctor.

The doctor arrived and examined Jimmy. He shook his head gravely.

Doctor: "I'm sorry, boys. Jimmy's not going to make it. He's got a bad case of heatstroke. We need to get him to a hospital, but I don't think he'll survive the trip."

Johnny sat in shock as the doctor and Slim tended to Jimmy. He couldn't believe what had happened.

Mr Wilson arrived on the scene, and when he saw Jimmy's condition, he scolded Johnny and Slim.

Mr Wilson: "What happened here? I trusted you two to keep my men safe. This is unacceptable."

Johnny hung his head in shame. He had let down his friend and his boss. He vowed to never let it happen again.

Foreman: "Glad you guys are here. We've got a lot of work to do today."

Mr. Wilson: "What happened here? I trusted you guys to keep my tenants safe. This is unacceptable."

Johnny hung his head in shame. He had let down his friend and his landlord. He vowed to never let it happen again.
